Gas Hydrate Stability and Sampling: The Future as Related to the Phase Diagram
نویسندگان
چکیده
The phase diagram for methane + water is explained, in relation to hydrate applications, such as in flow assurance and in nature. For natural applications, the phase diagram determines the regions for hydrate formation for twoand three-phase conditions. Impacts are presented for sample preparation and recovery. We discuss an international study for “Round Robin” hydrate sample preparation protocols and testing.

Prediction of Structural Changes in Gas Hydrate for Methane and Ethane Mixture by Using Tangent Plane Distance Minimization
Abstract: Â In this study, the change in the crystalline structure of gas hydrate was predicted for ternary mixture of methane-ethane-water. For this purpose, the tangent plane distance (TPD) minimization method was used. First, the calculations were performed for the binary mixtures of methane-water and ethane-water as the gas and liquid phases. The results show that for a binary mixture of th...
متن کاملMulti-Component-Multiphase Flash Calculations for Systems Containing Gas Hydrates by Direct Minimization of Gibbs Free Energy
The Michelsen stability and multiphase flash calculation by direct minimization of Gibbs free energy of the system at constant temperature and pressure, was used for systems containing gas hydrates. The solid hydrate phase was treated as a solid solution. The fugacities of all components of the hydrate phase were calculated as a function of compositions by the rearranged model of van der Wa...
متن کاملPrediction of methanol loss by hydrocarbon gas phase in hydrate inhibition unit by back propagation neural networks
Gas hydrate often occurs in natural gas pipelines and process equipment at high pressure and low temperature. Methanol as a hydrate inhibitor injects to the potential hydrate systems and then recovers from the gas phase and re-injects to the system. Since methanol loss imposes an extra cost on the gas processing plants, designing a process for its reduction is necessary. In this study, an accur...
متن کاملDevelopment of Hydrate Formation Phase Envelope: An Experimental Approach in One of the Iranian Gas Reservoirs
Iran's proved natural gas reserves are the world's second largest reserves. Mainly, because of different climate changes and different reservoirs characterizations, studying the behavior of producing outcome fluids and their transportation, is of major interest. One of the main problems occur in the gas reservoirs is related to the hydrate formation while producing from a well, either in produc...
متن کاملComment on "C-program for the calculation of gas hydrate stability zone thickness" by Hanumantha Rao, Computers & Geosciences 25 (1999) 705-707
Hanumantha Rao (1999) has published a quite valuable program to calculate the thickness of the gas hydrate stability zone (HSZ) in the marine environment. The method involved is based on the pressure–temperature equations developed by Miles (1995) from the gas hydrate phase equilibrium diagrams. Unfortunately, a bug occurs in the program, which may lead to some calculations appearing incorrect....
